Before removal of the fuel pump empty a fuel tank, having passed on the car. Works whenever possible should be spent in the open air and at good ventilation. The radial fan which electric motor is located outside of an air stream can be applied to workplace ventilation also.

1 Disconnect a negative cable (-) the storage battery at the switched off ignition. The battery is in a luggage compartment behind a cover on the right side. At cars BMW 316i, 318i the battery settles down in an impellent compartment.

As a result of switching-off of the storage battery the data from memory of malfunctions of some monitors is erased. If necessary before battery switching-off it is necessary to consider the given memories of malfunctions. Address to Section Diagnostics of malfunctions. Work it is desirable to spend HUNDRED in conditions.

2 Remove a back seat, address to Section Removal and installation of a back seat.

3 Remove a rubber epiploon-1 at the left or on the right under a seat. Cast away изоляционный a floor-mat.

4 Turn away screws of fastening and uncover-2.

The right gauge with the fuel pump:

5 Rasstykujte a socket-1. Thus release a clamp, having compressed it.

6 Mark a tape fuel hoses-2 and-3 and disconnect them from the stock gauge for what open collars.

The fuel system is under pressure, therefore a hose remove slowly and wipe the flowed out fuel.

7 Cautiously turn on blows накидную a nut-4. HUNDRED are applied for this purpose by tool BMW 161020. It can be carried out also by means of wooden бруска.

It is not necessary to apply the metal tool since thus probably formation of sparks.

8 Lift upwards the stock gauge, take him aside and take out. Thus enclose a rag and wipe the flowed out fuel.

The left gauge of a stock:

9 Turn away screws of fastening and uncover-2.

10 Rasstykujte a socket-1 gauges of a stock. Thus compress clamps.

11 Disconnect a fuel hose-2 from the stock gauge, for what ослабьте a collar-2.

The fuel system is under pressure, therefore the hose is necessary for removing slowly. If necessary wipe the flowed out fuel.

12 Cautiously turn on blows накидную a nut. HUNDRED are applied for this purpose by tool BMW 161020. It can be carried out also by means of wooden бруска.

13 Lift the stock gauge, take him aside and take out. Press from the bottom party a clamp-1 and remove a levelling hose of a tank. Take out the gauge. Thus enclose a rag and wipe the flowed out fuel.

The left gauge of a stock:

14 Be convinced that the return valve-1 is inserted into a levelling hose of a tank.

15 Insert the gauge and hold it approximately on 5 sm above a tank. Fix the gauge in a groove on a tank.

16 Level the gauge, having turned it. Thus the pad in the top part of the gauge should enter into a tank groove.
17 Put on and tighten накидную a nut. Thus the lock should enter a pad into a corresponding groove on a tank, distinctly having fixed.
18 Attach fuel hoses according to marks and fix their new collars.
19 Join штекерные connections and fix them.
20 Establish a cover and fix it, watching thus correct position of consolidation.
21 Insert into a cover a rubber epiploon. Will put back изоляционный a floor-mat.
22 Establish into place a back seat, address to Section Removal and installation of a back seat.
23 Attach a negative cable (-) the storage battery at the switched off ignition. Establish hours.

24 Check up work of the index of a stock of fuel on the panel of devices. If the fuel tank does not manage to be emptied in the course of movement, it specifies that the tank equalizer between the right and left chambers incorrectly works. In this case it is necessary to remove at first the right gauge with the fuel pump. Then to remove the left gauge and to check up, whether the levelling hose-1 in a sediment bowl-2 is fixed. After check establish back both gauges.
