BMW 3rd series can be equipped by automatic transmission (АТ). In process starting from place АТ carries out function of ordinary coupling, and during movement performs work on a gear change.

The basic knots АТ are: the twisting moment converter, a planetary reducer and a hydraulic or electronic control system. To transition to another transfer the relation in a planetary reducer are applied гидроприводные disk brakes and disk coupling.
The twisting moment converter on the functions corresponds to hydraulic coupling. Its problem includes coupling realisation at трогании about places and a gear change without mechanical influence.

Management of effort of pressing at switching carries out the electronic device instead of the hydraulics applied in usual check point. Thus, there is fuller information for better management of switching process that gives the chance to choose the optimum transfer relation depending on a mode of operation of the car and desire of the driver. The considered control system of firm BMW has designation AGS (Adaptive Getriеbesteuerung) (the Adaptive control system of transmission).

The monitor distinguishes on speed from which the pedal is pressed, whether the driver wishes to go "is sports" or is economic"and according to it operates a gear change point. At management of switching process resistance to movement is considered also, for example, whether the car uphill or from mountain, acceleration of braking and movement on turn moves.

Steptronic – automatics of step-by-step switching

The 5-step automatic transmission near to a path of automatic switching has a short side scene with step-by-step switching. Such switchings are accepted in motorcycle sport.

In system Steptronic the driver can switch transfers at will upwards or downwards. In comparison with manual switching system Steptronic considerably more комфортабельна also is protected from management errors. For example, transfer switching is not carried out, if thereof as much as possible admissible number of turns of the engine is exceeded.

At occurrence of malfunctions with entrance signals or with electromagnetic valves switching on the emergency program of work is made. Therefore here removal of a check point and adjustment of draught of the selector are described only. Oil in a check point is replaced only at repair.
